NATIVITY OF THE LORD JESUS CATHOLIC CHURCH - SPRINGFIELD TOWNSHIP, OHIO

James Douglas Evans Architect, Inc. is excited to announce that the plans for a new addition to Nativity’s church are out to bid for a spring, 2015 ground-breaking and late fall occupation. The estimated $1.4 million, 7200 s.f. addition and 700 s.f.  remodeled area will house new offices for the pastor along with pastoral and youth ministry offices, religious education, storage space, and a large, multi-purpose gathering room. Both areas are served by a spacious new lobby entrance that faces east and is served by its own parking, and is also situated in close proximity to the rectory. The gathering space is served by outdoor patios facing both east, and north, with the northerly patio having direct views of the beautiful and natural wetlands/pond on the site. A wall of glass opens the view to both exterior patios. The existing church’s two-story design did not originally incorporate an elevator between floors, so a new elevator is part of the project, being located inside the existing church area, bringing accessibility and ease of access between the existing levels. In this same area of the existing church, the previous office space will be converted to a new library. The overall design intent needed to resolve not only the functional needs of the church, but also needed to provide an architectural distinction between their office functions and the main worship space, while blending materials and an overall design cohesiveness with the existing church. Part of the design features a new masonry bell tower that serves as a strong architectural design element and terminus that separates and strongly defines the main entry to Nativity’s existing gathering hall, and also visually separates the new office area addition/Parish Family Center for a new visual identity.
